DCIIA'S Diversity & Inclusion Mission Statement

At DCIIA, our mission is, "To provide a forum for industry participants to enhance the employer-based DC system, emphasizing access, innovation, best practices and institutional approaches, with the goal of improving financial security for America’s workers.” We recognize and affirm the importance of diversity and inclusion in working together to further our aims in this regard.

Diversity & Inclusion Events

DCIIA is hosting a series of "Candid Conversations" virtual events in summer/fall 2020. DCIIA members can view a replay of our July event here We are also proud to have partnered with  Women in Pensions Network (WiPN)in producing two diversity and inclusion events in 2019 in conjunction with our annual Forums – one at PIMCO in January 2019, and another at BNY Mellon in November 2019.

Diverse Speakers Bureau

DCIIA is committed to featuring a diverse array of speakers at our in-person and virtual events. If you have diverse speakers to suggest who are experts on retirement-related topics, investing, or diversity and inclusion, please email them to Karen Witham, DCIIA staff liaison for D&I initiatives, via  


Diversity & Inclusion Committee

This committee was created to:

  • Explore ways that DCIIA can increase awareness and visibility of D&I in the DC industry
  • Promote understanding around the different ways D&I can be achieved among its members
  • Ensure DCIIA is intentional about D&I in its own activities, and to ensure DCIIA leverages industry partners to achieve its objectives
  • Ensure that the retirement savings system is as inclusive as possible

Chief Diversity Officer Advisory Council  

The Council includes chief diversity officers from member firms along with the D&I committee chair and vice-chair and DCIIA staff. The Council provides strategic input for DCIIA's D&I efforts as well as collaborating on D&I initiatives and helping DCIIA to further its D&I mission and goals. Current members include: Paul Olschwanger – Aon; Annmarie Frio – Ascensus; Ron Peyton – Callan; Jason Clark – Empower; Kathryn Sayko – Prudential; Paul Francisco – State Street; Tom Kazmierczak – T. Rowe Price; Crystal Langston – Vanguard; Shawna Ferguson – Wellington.

McKinsey / LeanIn “Women in the Workplace” Study

In 2019, DCIIA became an industry champion for this study, encouraging our members to consider submitting data to help boost representation of our industry within the broader study. McKinsey shared the results of the 2019 study with DCIIA members in a webinar in March 2020.
